Make copies of all documents and store them in a SAFE place
When you invest in a home there are a lot of documents that will be executed. Many of the documents you sign as a buyer will be needed in the future.
TIP: If you live in Georgia, when tax season comes around after buying your home. Make sure you keep the documents so you can file for your Homestead Exemption.
Change and rekey the locks
Most buyers are aware of this after buying their new home. However a lot of first time home buyers don’t do it, because they think they will save the money.
Tip: Keep in mind that sometimes it is cheaper to just have the locks rekeyed.
Start a home maintenance list
Becoming a homeowner comes with a ton of responsibilities and tasks. Regardless if a buyer is planning on completing the maintenance themselves or not. Making sure you hire the right person for the job is essential.
It is a good idea when starting the list that the tasks are broken up by seasons or months. Whether the home maintenance list is one piece of paper or on detailed spreadsheet, it is very important that you start the planning process after moving in. By keeping up on maintenance, buyers can greatly reduce the number of huge repairs and not to mention the stress relief that comes with it.
Update important people and companies of your move
This will insure that everyone knows of your new address and will let all the companies know where they can send those important packages and BILLS!
Check the water heater
